Who is responsible for:
Content accuracy
The council remains responsible for the accuracy of its own official information. Loci’s role is to provide the platform and the structure for that information to be clearly presented, attributed and easy for residents to find. Where community content exists, that sits separately from official council content so there is a clear distinction.
Updates and changes
Updates to official council information remain with the council, as the service owner. Loci provides the infrastructure that makes those updates visible in the right local context. Our role is to support the platform, while councils stay in control of the information they want residents to see. Prior to the release of the Council Hub, councils can request changes to the setup directly to Loci - https://knowledgecentre.lociapp.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/5514547184287-Request-a-Change-to-Your-Loci-Configuration
Moderation and validation
Loci is responsible for the platform infrastructure, moderation tools and the overall technical management of community spaces. Councils are responsible for validating their own official information where needed. In practice, that means Loci manages the environment and controls that support trust, while councils remain the authority on their own content.
What is the onus on council as a client vs Loci as a platform provider?
The split is designed to be straightforward. Loci manages the platform itself, including the technical side, moderation tools and the framework that keeps information organised by place and source. The councils role is to provide and maintain its official information, and to validate anything that needs council oversight. Community participation then sits alongside that in a separate and clearly defined way.
How much ongoing effort is required from council teams to keep Loci effective?
The aim is to keep the ongoing effort proportionate. Councils are not expected to run or maintain the platform itself. The main input is keeping official information current and making use of the space where it adds value. Loci takes care of the platform management, so the council effort is focused on content and communication rather than technical administration.
